Film adaptations, especially those adapted from literature, have grown rapidly in recent years due to the amount of adaptations from both the mainstream and independent film industries. However, the focus of these studies is often focused on the best-selling works of the literary style that can easily be adapted to the white curtain; however, there are also cases where the process of adaptation results in a completely different way. The novel Anna Karenina, published as a book by Lev Tolstoy in 1878, has so far been adapted more than once in theatre, film, television, ballet, musical, opera and literary forms. Anna Karenina, which was adapted by Joe Wright in 2012 with the same name, is quite different from the other films adapted from the novel until then with the brave changes made by the director. When taking into account the diversity of the age, the audience of the age, the possibilities of the cinema and the observation practices, the novel and the cinema, using different techniques, become the subject of the study of how a world it offers both to the audience and to the reader. This study includes the evaluation of the 1935 production, the first audio film version of Anna Karenina's novel, along with the 2012 adaptation, by means of the content and form analysis method that will include the romantic love view of the period and the changes that have occurred when adapted from the novel to the film.

That being said, the focus of these studies is often on best-selling works of literary style that are easily adaptable to the screen; yet, there are situations where the adaptation process ends in a completely different way. Lev Tolstoy’s novel Anna Karenina, published in 1878, has been adapted more than once in theater, film, television, ballet, musical, opera and literary forms. Anna Karenina, adapted by Joe Wright with the same name in 2012, is quite different from other productions that have been adapted from novels to films until then with the bold changes made by the director. Considering the diversity of the era, the audience of the age, the possibilities of the cinema and the viewing practices of the adapted film, it becomes a subject of examination what kind of world the novel and cinema offer both to its audience and its reader by using different techniques. Another subject of this study is to examine how the romantic love theme, which is the focal point of the novel, is reflected cinematically in two different centuries. This study examines the 1935 and 2012 film adaptations of Anna Karenina novel using the formal and content analysis methods to analyze the technique that has been used when adapting from novel to film along with the perspective of romantic love of both centuries.
