Almanca seyahatname yazan yazarların en tanınmışlarının başında gelen günümüz seyyahı Ilija Trojanow kendini bir millete ait olarak tanımlamaktan çekinen bir yazardır. Yine de ağırlıklı olarak Almanca yazıyor olmasından kaynaklı batılı bir yazar olarak tanınan Ilija Trojanow seyyah kimliğiyle yüz binlerce Müslümanın arasında hac yolculuğuna çıkmaya karar verir ve sonrasında bu hac yolculuğunu bir seyahatname olarak kaleme alır. Trojanow birçok farklı türde seyahatname yazmıştır. İncelenen bu seyahatnamesinde kutsal mekânları ziyaret edemeyenler için kullanılan geleneksel öznel tasvir üslubuna sadık kalmıştır. Eser seyahatin her aşamasında okura somut ama bir o kadar da yazarın duygulanını betimleyen resimler sunmaktadır. Yazar içtenlikle hac ibadetinin tüm gereklerini yerine getirirken bin yıllık bir geleneği, vuslatın zirvesi olarak tasvir etmektedir. Çektiği bütün zorlukları ve meşakkatleri bir kefeye, elde ettiği ödülü ve mutluluğu da diğer kefeye koyarak okura heyecan verici ve merak uyandırıcı bir lezzet sunmaktadır. Kendisinden önce kutsal yolculuğa çıkan seyyahlardan farklı olarak birinin emriyle veya görev icabı değil kendi arzusuyla Hac yolculuğunu yapmaya karar vermiştir. Bu nedenle de duymak istenilenleri, sipariş üzere değil, sadece gördüklerini, hissettiklerini tasvir eder. Trojanow bu tavrıyla bilinçli bir biçimde kendisiyle, seyahatnamelerini ‘ötekileştirmek’ için kullanan seyyahlar arasına mesafe koymuştur. Alman seyahatname örnekleri içerisinde klasikleşmeye aday olabilecek bu eser, günümüz seyahat edebiyatında önemli bir yer edineceğinin sinyallerini vermektedir.
Ilija Trojanow is one of the most famous western traveling authors. Although he refuses to be defined as a German he is writing mostly in the German language. He has travelled to a lot of different places and always recorded these in his books. As a pilgrim among thousands of Muslims he also travelled to Mecca and has written down his experiences in a German travelogue. In this travelogue, he uses the traditional style of those who have travelled to these holy places before and describes them for those who never had the chance to see those places. The travelogue provides concrete but also emotional pictures. While the author fulfils all the needs of the Hajj pilgrimage, he describes this ancient tradition as the climax of an ultimate union. As he explains all the difficulties and troubles on the one hand and all the rewards and joys on the other hand, he keeps the reader excited. Different from those travelers before him who travelled for business purposes and were motivated by a sponsor, Trojanow is setting his journey just for his own intentions and wishes. Therefore, he is not forced to write according to the wish of someone, which keeps his travelogue very authentic. This travelogue, as a candidate to be one of the classic German travelogues, holds a very important place among its contemporary examples.
