TRB2 bölgesi Türkiye’deki 26 düzey-2 bölgesinden biridir. Van, Muş, Bitlis ve Hakkâri illerini kapsayan bölgenin günümüzdeki nüfusu 2 milyon 175 bin civarında olup bu nüfus Türkiye nüfusunun % 2,6’sının oluşturmaktadır. TRB2 bölgesi Türkiye’deki 26 Kalkınma ajansından Doğu Anadolu Kalkınma Ajansı’nın (DAKA) faaliyet bölgesidir. Son yıllarda net göç hızı sürekli eksi değerler alan bölgenin nüfusu, yüksek olan toplam doğurganlık hızına bağlı olarak artmaya devam etmektedir. Nitekim bölgenin nüfusun 2007-2019 döneminde % 11 civarında artmıştır. Aynı dönemde yıllık doğal artış hızı % 2,1 ile % 2,5 arasında değişirken gerçek yıllık nüfus artış hızı % 0,84 olarak gerçekleşmiştir. Ancak bölgede toplam doğurganlık, kaba doğum, kaba ölüm ve doğal nüfus artış oranlarının düşme eğilimine girdiği görülmektedir. 2008 yılında ‰ 29 olan kaba doğum oranı 2018’de ‰ 24’e ‰ 4 olan kaba ölüm oranı ‰ 3’e düşmüştür. Aynı süreçte toplam doğurganlık hızı da 3,83’ten 2,94’e düşmüştür. Bölgede nüfusun yaş yapısı 13 yılda önemli bir değişim geçirmiştir. 2007 yılında % 42 olan çocuk nüfus oranı 2019’da % 33’e gerilerken % 55 olan çalışma çağındaki nüfus % 62’ye ve % 3 olan yaşlı nüfus oranı da % 4’e çıkmıştır. Bu değişime rağmen günümüzde bölge nüfusu halen oldukça gençtir. 13 yılda nüfusun yaş kompozisyonunun değişmesine bağlı olarak TRB2 bölgesinde toplam bağımlılık oranı % 82’den 60’a genç bağımlılık oranı % 76’dan % 53’e inmiştir. Aynı süreçte yaşlı bağımlılık oranı da % 6’dan % 7’ye çıkmıştır. 2008-2018 yılları arasında bölgede 15+ yaş nüfusun okuryazarlık oranı yükselmiş ve okuryazar nüfusun eğitim seviyesinde önemli bir iyileşme olmuştur.
TRB2 region is one of the 26 NUTS level-2 regions in Turkey. The region covers Van, Muş, Bitlis and Hakkâri provinces and its population today is around 2 million 175 thousand, which corresponds to 2,6% of the Turkey's population. TRB2 region is the area of activity of Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (EADA) which is one of 26 development agencies in Turkey. In recent years, the population of the region, whose net migration rate has constantly taken negative values, continues to increase due to the high total fertility rate. Indeed, the population of the region increased by 11% in the period 2007-2019. In the same period, the annual natural growth rate varied between 2,1% and 2,5%, while the real annual population growth rate was 0.84%. However, it is also observed that the rate of total fertility, crude birth, crude death and natural growth rate tend to decrease. The rough birth rate, which was 29 ‰ in 2008, decreased to 24 ‰ in 2018; The crude mortality rate from ‰ 4 fell to 3‰. In the same period, the total fertility rate decreased from 3,83 to 2,94. The age structure of the population in the region has undergone a significant change in 13 years. While the child population rate, which was 42% in 2007, decreased to 33% in 2019, the working age population, which was 55 %, increased to 62% and the elderly population rate, which was 3% increased to 4%. Despite this change, the population of the region is quite young today. Depending on the change of the age composition of the population in 13 years, the total dependency rate in the TRB2 region decreased from 82 to 60%; youth dependency rate decreased from 76% to 53%. In the same period, the rate of elderly addiction rose from 6% to 7%. Between 2008 and 2018, the literacy rate of the 15+ age population in the region increased and there was a significant improvement in the education level of the literate population.
