This study analyzed the relationship between the unemployment and suicide rates in OECD countries in the years 2000 and 2019. Suicide rates are addressed by gender differences. It is intended to determine the impact of unemployment on women and men’s suicide rates. Method - Panel VAR model was established using the data of women and men suicide rates with unemployment and was predicted using the Holtz-Eakin, Newey and Rosen GMM method using ortogonal deviations. Effect response functions have been used to measure the impact of variables on another variable. For the effect of the shock that will occur in one variable on the other variable, the forecast error variance is separated. Panel Granger Cause Test has been applied to identify the direction of causality between the variables. The findings - Unemployment and the suicide rates of women and men have an impact on each other and each variable is affected by its own delay. Unemployment and male suicide rates are one-way, while male and female suicide rates are two-way causal relationships. Discussions - Considering the results that unemployment is the cause of suicide and that the unemployed person will attempt suicide within an average of 4-5 years, the need to interfere with the unemployed individuals during this period and before it has emerged and to prevent the unemployment from causing suicide.
