Abstract:

Introduction: Health care satisfaction is one of the important indicators of quality patient care. Purpose: The study aims to identify the levels of satisfaction and factors affecting the health care of parents who have a child in the hospital due to acute and chronic illness. The study was conducted with 109 parents who accompanied their child in the hospital. The data of the study was collected using the "Print Form" and the "PedsQL Health Care Satisfaction Scale". The data; identifiable statistics were evaluated by Student t, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests. Results: 51.4% of the children surveyed were hospitalized due to an acute disease and 88.1% of the parents interviewed were mothers. Parents who stayed in the hospital for more than 20 days, with the length of the stay in the hospital, their satisfaction points fell; the satisfaction points of parents informed about their child’s diagnosis, treatment and care increased; and the satisfaction points of parents who need to express their feelings of stress and anger fell (p < .05). The result: informing the parents who accompanied their child in the hospital about the diagnosis, treatment and care of their child increased their overall satisfaction levels and reduced their stress and anger levels. Nurses may be advised to provide advice and educational services to their parents on topics they need.
