Özet:

Restoration, like many other disciplines, which has suffered from losses for hundreds of years, has found its own scientific attitude under the name of “contemporary restoration theory” by evolving and improving under such names as style unity, romantic perspective and historical restoration theory. This very long period is shortly summarized in the article and the charter Carta Del Restauro, the Venice Charter (the origins of contemporary restoration theory), as well as international organisations such as ICOMOS, UNESCO are briefly mentioned. Salt Galata, formerly known as Bank-i Osmani-i Sahane (Ottoman Bank), which is considered to be a successful example is evaluated in the article in terms of the distinctive properties of its facades which render the structure unique, as well as its interior design qualities. In the last chapter of the study, the restoration of the structure is analyzed under the scope of contemporary conservation principles, and the lead architect who contributed to the project Han Tumertekin and more importantly his attitude towards its restoration are also mentioned. The hand drawings of Alexandre Vallaury along with a chronological analysis project which covers five periods and was made for the purpose of restitution suggestions, but most importantly, the additional contemporary structure located towards the south of the building are examined in the article as well.
