Abstract:

Years of social change experienced since the 1960s, together with urbanization and migration in Turkey began to take increasingly different shapes. In the Turkish cinema, the beginning of this painful process started to gain momentum with the movement of social realism, so that many directors started to deal with the issue of immigration through the spatial divisions experienced in the cities. This article describes the main films that examine the family structure of immigrants in Istanbul and the social changes that took place with migration. It is stated that the topics of the films are shaped not only through the spaces they are captured in but also through the social issues they process. In order to recognize the change of viewpoints that the films have, films between 1960s to 1980s were classified first period films and films between 1980s to 2010 were classified second period films. These films address the problems of communities that have migrated to Istanbul.
