Çuvaşçaya ait ilk kayıtlar onların yaşadıkları bölgeye Rusların gelişi ile ortaya çıkmıştır. Farklı amaçlarla yapılan ilk kayıtlar arasında sözlükçülüğün de ilk adımları olarak değerlendirilen listeler yer almaktadır. Bu eserler farklı çalışmalar çerçevesinde zaman zaman da mesleği dilcilik olmayanlar tarafından hazırlanmıştır. Bu ilk dönem eserlerinden sonra özellikle Rusya’daki misyonerlik çalışmalarına paralel bir şekilde dil, tercüme çalışmaları yanında sözlükler de ortaya çıkmaya başlamıştır. Misyonerlik çalışmaları çerçevesinde dinî alandaki çalışmaların daha verimli olması için yapılan gramer ve sözlük çalışmaları Çuvaşça araştırmaları tarihi için çok önemlidir. Özellikle Rusya’da konuyla ilgili akademik kurumların da faaliyete geçmesiyle ciddi bir sözlükçülük geleneğinin ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir. Bu gelişme Çuvaş sözlükçülüğüne de yansımıştır. Kelime listeleri şeklinde başlayan misyonerlik çalışmaları çerçevesinde devam eden ve akademik kurumsallaşma ile zenginleşen çalışmalarda zengin bir sözlük külliyatı ortaya çıkmıştır. Makalede başlangıcından günümüze kadar geçen süre içerisinde yayımlanan sözlükler Rusya ve “Rusya dışında yayımlananlar olarak biçiminde sınıflandırılarak işlenmiştir. Rusya’da yapılan çalışmalar kronolojik bir düzen içerisinde verilmiştir. Çarlık Rusyası, Sovyet Rusyası ve Sovyet Rusya sonrası federasyon döneminde sözlük çalışmaları şeklinde dönemlere ayrılmıştır. Önemli görülen sözlükler genel hatlarıyla tanıtılmıştır. Tespit edilen bütün sözlükler tasnif edilerek tam künyeleriyle birlikte verilmiştir. Sözlüklerin tasnifinde Doğan Aksan’ın sınıflandırması esas alınmış eserlerin tam künyeleri bu sınıflandırmada yer almıştır. Sözlük yayınlarının büyük bir bölümü doğal olarak Çuvaşların yaşadığı Rusya’dadır. Çarlık, Sovyet ve Sovyet sonrası dönemde çok sayıda sözlük yayımlanmıştır. Bu sözlükler arasında Rusçadan Çuvaşçaya veya Çuvaşçadan Rusçaya olanlar ağırlıktadır. Özellikle farklı alanlara ait çok sayıda terimler sözlüğü yayımlanmıştır. Bunun dışında Finlandiya, Almanya, Türkiye gibi bazı ülkelerde de Çuvaşça sözlükler yayımlanmıştır. Rusya dışında yayımlanan Çuvaşça sözlüklerin sayısı çok fazla değildir.
The first records of Çuvaşçaya appeared with the arrival of the Russians to the area where they lived. Among the first records made for different purposes are the lists considered as the first steps of the dictionary. These works have been prepared in the framework of different studies and from time to time by non-professional. After these early works, vocabulary began to appear in parallel with the missionary work in Russia, in addition to language and translation work. The grammatics and dictionary works made in order to be more efficient in the religious field within the framework of missionary studies are very important for the history of Chuvashka research. Especially in Russia, it appears that a serious dictionary tradition has emerged with the activity of academic institutions on the subject. This is also reflected in the vocabulary. In the framework of missionary work that began in the form of words lists, a rich dictionary culture appeared in the work that continued and was enriched by academic corporation. The dictionaries published in the period from the beginning to today have been classified as "publicated outside of Russia" and "publicated outside of Russia". The studies in Russia were given in a chronological order. The Tsarish Russia, Soviet Russia and Soviet Russia were divided into periods in the form of dictionary works during the post-Federation period. Important dictionaries are presented with general lines. All the dictionaries identified were classified with their full columns. In the dictionary of the dictionaries, the classification of Doğan Aksan is based on the full columns of works that are included in this classification. A large part of the dictionary publications are naturally in Russia where the Chuvas live. Many dictionaries were published during the Tsar, Soviet and post-Soviet periods. These dictionaries include those from Russian to Chevrolet or Chevrolet to Russian. There are a lot of vocabulary dictionaries published in different areas. In some countries, such as Finland, Germany, and Turkey, the Slovak dictionaries have also been published. The number of Russian dictionaries published outside of Russia is not too much.

The first period works of Chuvash dictionaries are mostly in the form of word lists and they were prepared by people who were not specialized in language studies. After those first period works, especially parallel to missionary activities in Russia, new vocabulary emerged as a result of language and translation studies. The grammar and dictionary studies that were fulfilled in order for the religious studies to be effective are utmostly important for the history of the Chuvash language researches. Especially in Russia, a new and serious tradition of lexicography started when academical institutions started studying in this field. We see the reflection of this development in Chuvash lexicography. A wide range of dictionary corpus emerged after the studies that became effective after academical institutionalization and missionary efforts that were launched by world lists. The article analyses the works published from the beginning to the end as dictionaries published in Russia and out of Russia. The studies conducted in Russia has been given in a hierarchical order. And they have been put in a periodical order as the dictionary studies in Czarist Russia, Soviet Russia, and the federation period post- Soviet Russia. The important words are defined in general. All the dictionaries found are classified and listed with their tags. The system of Doğan Aksan were used for the classification of the dictionaries and the tags of the studies have taken place in this classification. Many of the published dictionaries are naturally in Russia where Chuvashes live. Many dictionaries were published during Tzardom, Soviet and post-Soviet period. They are mostly classified as from Russian to Chuvash language and from Chuvash language to Russian. And there are also many conceptional dictionaries in many fields. In addition, In countries such as Finland, Germany and Turkey Chuvash dictionaries were also published. There are not many Chuvash language dictionaries published out of Russia.
