Abstract:

We can see examples of films about violence against women in the world and in Turkey. The shooting of the movie "My Aunt Came", which will be analyzed with the theme of Violence Against Women, was shot in Akıncılar, one of the villages of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The film, starring Burçin Terzioğlu, Necip Memili, Turgay Tanüklü and Osman Altaş, tells the sad story of a family from Diyarbakır who married their 13-year-old daughter to her aunt's son. The character of Reyhan, who does not want this marriage, is forced into a religious marriage and as a result runs away from home on the first day of her marriage. Such films are important in terms of understanding the dimension of violence against women arising from traditions and customs. In the study, the elements of violence against women, the violent tendencies of the characters, positive messages criticizing violence against women and the results of consanguineous marriages will be examined with examples from movie scenes. The dimensions of the danger of violence against women, which can be caused by the customs and traditions that will be examined in this article, are important for the emotional development of young girls. This study is a research in the qualitative content analysis model. The theory of the study is Sergey Eisenstein's Theory of Cinema (Fiction). Eisenstein's fiction theory includes social dramas and tries to raise awareness of some social issues through film. Child brides, one of Turkey's social problems, which are described in the movie "My Aunt Came", which is the subject of the research, and who are forced into marriage due to customs and traditions, are mostly seen in eastern provinces. In the study, gender studies were examined through Eisenstein's drama-based fiction theory and it was aimed to raise awareness about violence against women as a social problem. This article examines Reyhan and her friend Huriye, who were subjected to child violence and forced into marriage, in the context of violence.
