Abstract:

Attacks on human rights that have emerged with the increasing economic crises, political problems, civil wars, ethnic and religious conflicts throughout the world have also increased the number of people who leave their own countries and migrate to other countries. Turkey is a country of strategic importance in the European gateway to international migration. Especially in the last decade, the increasing refugee movements in the country frequently find their way into national and international media. February 28, 2020 date of the opening of Turkey's European land and sea border crossings and stop those who want to get their news was made. Thus it flocked to the border crossing of refugees seeking to reach Europe from various provinces of Turkey. This process ended with the evacuation of the camp area, where approximately 10 thousand people gathered at the Edirne-Pazarkule border gate, which was accepted as a symbol on March 26, 2020. The first 15 days of this 28-day process caused great repercussions in the national and international media. The fact that the refugee crisis was dealt with for the first time in the context of Hurriyet and Kathimerini newspapers makes this study special. In this study, Hurriyet and Kathimerini newspapers on February 29 - the scope of March 15, 2020 between international scale resonated Turkey - Greece between the refugee crisis visuals they use on relevant news and headlines Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis focuses on a comparative examination. It is evaluated how the examined newspapers differentiate their visual and text content while producing the news text, taking into account the interests of the country. In addition, it is observed that the impartiality of the news has changed in favor of the newspaper that produces the news and that different discourses are developed on the same subject while forming public opinion.
