Abstract:

Many studies on aesthetics have been done in classical Turkish poetry; however, no aesthetic studies were found on the city. In the study, the Ottoman city and urban dwellers, which are reflected in the Nâbî Dîwân, are examined within the framework of aesthetic theories. The aim is to show the aesthetic understanding of the Ottoman city imagination on dîwân poetry. The study is limited to the ode and date poems in the Nâbî Dîwân. A conceptual analysis was made at the beginning; The concept of the universe, aesthetics, beauty, and absolute beauty are emphasized. In addition, the source of beauty and the manifestation of beauty on the world, city, and city-dwellers are explained, and the basic differences between the understanding of modern art and the understanding of Islamic art are mentioned. As a result, it was concluded that the dîwân poetry was the source of the aesthetics of the city imagination, including the city and the city dweller.
