Abstract:

Tourism is one of the most profitable industries in the world. It is important for the development of tourism in a country that the domestic areas and various tourist areas meet the needs of modern times. The article offers the basic theoretical approaches to urban tourism, analyses the definitions such as "city tourism" and "city tourism's attractiveness elements", the main reasons for tourists to visit the world tourism centers, the sustainable tourism approach.The findings obtained in the light of the research that lasted until today, the location of the Sheikh destination in Azerbaijan tourism, the development aspects, the potential and the research that will promote the development of tourism in Sheikh has been studied.

The main objective of the study is to analyze the main aspects of the current issues related to the development of tourism in the Sheikh destination, to develop suggestions that will ensure the future development of sustainable tourism in the region and to contribute to the promotion of this valuable historical place, though small.
