1929 Büyük Bunalımı'nın dünyanın gördüğübüyük ekonomik kriz olduğu konusunda birçok iktisatçı hemfikirdir. Ekonomik krizle mücadelede tecrübe eksikliğiyle uygulanan ekonomi politikaları, Büyük Bunalımın derinleşmesi ve süresinin uzamasına neden olmuştur. 2008 yılında finansal piyasalarda başlayan küresel kriz pek çok açıdan 1929 Büyük Bunalımı'na benzetilmektedir. Ancak dünya genelinde krize karşı alınan tedbirlerin etkinliği ve krizin derinleşip süresi uzamadan kontrol altına alınması önceki krizlerden ders alındığını göstermektedir. Bu çalışmada 1929 Büyük Bunalımı ile 2008 küresel krizlerinin nedenleri, etkileri ve krizden çıkış için uygulanan politikaların karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır. Bu bağlamda bu iki krizin birbiriyle karşılaştırılması gelecek dönemlerde ortaya çıkabilecek olası krizlerin önlenmesi, etkilerinin azaltılması ve krizden çıkışın hızlanmasına bilgi desteği sağlayabilir.
