Abstract:

Amin Maalouf made the land where his roots came, the Middle East, the inspiration element of his works. Migration, which occupies the minds of the people of the East and the Middle East significantly, is one of the titles most processed in his books.The author writes The Beginning of the Roads by combining the migrations that continued from his homeland to the west over generations with the triangle of three generations. The belonging that the Western life culture, which is ideally transformed into a puzzle, is a functional element in the imagination of the work, being myself, from every immigrant. At the beginning of the roads, a hundred and fifty-year-old letter, paintings and various documents embedded in an old 'babu' of the writer's family are taken from Beirut to France to be written. The appearance of these documents after the narrative's intellectual existence is related to the self-consciousness that can interpret the 'ben'. In Hegel’s philosophy, the condition of self-consciousness is to negate itself. As in Tin’s relationship with nature, the self-negative and the process of self-creation of self-consciousness occurs through self-exotication and overcoming it. In this work, what makes the narrative feel alien and prevents him from continuing his life without understanding is his past, his roots. The way to reach him passes through the progressive, dispersed documents to 'Babul'. The immigration in France, which represents the other in the writer's life, has created the possibility to identify and evaluate the self. The fact of immigration in this work of Maalouf will be assessed in the framework of me and other concepts and will be considered whether or not the process becomes dominance and slavery.
