Abstract:

This study aims to determine the opinions of 8th-grade students on global problems. The case study method was used in the research conducted within the scope of qualitative research methodology. The study group determined by criterion sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, consisted of 28, 8th-grade students studying at a secondary school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Ortahisar, central district of Trabzon. In the research, an open-ended questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis technique. As a result of the research, it is observed that when the global problem is mentioned, the students mostly answer global warming. They stated the causes of global problems as harmful gases, environmental pollution, human and nature damage, population growth, industrialization. It was determined that students expressed the consequences of global problems as environmental pollution, damage to living things, melting of glaciers, climate change, and diseases. On the other hand, it is stated that the students do not find the studies to solve global problems sufficiently. It was concluded that the students think everybody has a duty to solve it and make suggestions such as installing filters in chimneys, preventing environmental pollution, using renewable energy sources, afforestation, not wasting and using public transportation.
