Beden maddi bir varoluş olması anlamında bireysel olduğu kadar kamusaldır. Dolayısıyla toplumsal pratiklerden, kültürel kodlardan, tarihsel dönüşümlerden, söylemlerden bağımsız değildir. Bu nedenle bedenin iktidar ilişkileri tarafından tarihsel olarak nasıl denetlendiğini, gözetlendiğini ve terbiye edildiğini irdelemek önemlidir. Hıristiyanlığın pastoral iktidarı ile Modernitenin rasyonel iktidarının ardından beden günümüzde sağlık, estetik, moda, medya gibi çeşitli endüstrilerin müdahale ve tahakküm alanı haline gelmiştir. Küresel kapitalizm ve post-modern tüketim kültürü ile oluşturulan bu yeni iktidar mekanizması, bedeni ideal olması için zorlamakta ve idealin dışında kalan her bedeni sarmalamaktadır. Ancak bu durum ideale karşı mücadele pratiklerini de gündeme getirmektedir. Özellikle yeni medyanın etkileşimli ve kullanıcı odaklı yapısı bireylerin içerik üretebilmelerine ve bu içerikleri kamusal alana yayabilmelerine olanak sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle beden-iktidar ilişkisi ve tüketim kültürünün ideal beden tasarımı kuramsal düzlemde tartışılmıştır. Ardından dünyada ve Türkiye’de özellikle kadın aktivistlerce ideal beden tasarımına karşı bir mücadele olarak yeni medyada yayılan Beden Olumlama Hareketi incelenmiştir. Son olarak, iktidar ilişkileri ile bireylerin anlamlandırma pratikleri arasındaki etkileşimi sorgulamak amacıyla bir alımlama analizi yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda Ondokuz Mayıs ile Gazi üniversitelerinin İletişim Bilimleri ve Kadın Çalışmaları alanlarında yüksek lisans yapan öğrencilerine İdeal Bedene Ulaşmak başlıklı Youtube videosu izletilerek Beden Olumlama Hareketi’nin nasıl alımlandığı incelenmiştir.
The body is as public as individual as it is a material existence. Therefore it is not independent of social practices, cultural codes, historical transformations, speeches. Therefore, it is important to consider how the body is historically controlled, monitored and trained by power relationships. After the pastoral power of Christianity and the rational power of Modernity, the body has now become the field of intervention and support of various industries such as health, aesthetics, fashion, media. This new power mechanism, created by global capitalism and post-modern consumption culture, forces the body to be ideal, and embraces every body that remains outside the ideal. However, this situation also brings up the practice of fighting against the ideal. In particular, the interactive and user-oriented structure of the new media enables individuals to produce content and spread these content to the public space. In this study, the body-power relationship and the ideal body design of the consumption culture were primarily discussed on the theoretical level. Then in the world and in Turkey, the Body Positioning Movement was studied as a struggle against the ideal body design by women activists in particular. Finally, an assumption analysis was conducted in order to question the interaction between power relationships and individual understanding practices.
