In this study, we have tested the mutagenic effects of mitomycin-C (MMC) and propolis on transitional carcinoma cell cultures. Tissue samples were obtained from transurethral resection (TUR) tissue of patients with superficial bladder cancer. In this study, 0.1 ml propolis (8 g propolis + 8% 15 ml L-Lysin), 1.6 µl mitomycin-C (0.1 mg/ml) and 0.1 ml L-Lysin (80 mg L-Lysin + 1 ml distilled water) were added to cancer tissue cultures and the effects of these solutions on the micronucleus (MN) rate were evaluated. Propolis and mitomycin-C increased the micronucleus rate of the cell when compared to untreated control (p<0.05). Our results showed that both propolis and mitomycin-C are mutagenic materials, because of their micronucleus increasing effects
