Çalışma, binlerce yıl önce ulaşım amacıyla geliştirilen kayağın dünyada ve Türkiye’de günümüzün en büyük turizm hareketlerinden birine dönüşmesi sürecini değerlendirmek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan incelemeler, 1850’lerden sonraki sürecin kış turizmi açısından oldukça önemli olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu süreçte, en az 8000 yıllık bir olgu olan kayak Norveç’te modernleşmiş, bugünkü rekreasyonel kayağın öncüsü olan Alp Disiplini gelişmiş, mekanik tesisler ve dağ otelleri kurulmuş ve İsviçre başta olmak üzere Alp bölgesinde kış turizmi hareketi yayılmıştır. Türk dünyası açısından bakıldığında, Altay Dağlarında yaşayan Türk kavimlerinin kayağın ataları arasında yer aldığı, ancak Türkiye’de kayağın 1915 itibariyle askeri amaçla öğrenilmeye başlandığı görülmektedir. Kış turizmi olgusu ise 1930’larda, yeni kurulan Cumhuriyetin modernleşme çalışmalarından biri olarak Uludağ’da gelişmeye başlamıştır. Günümüzde Türkiye’de 51 adet faal kayak alanı, 53 adet de yeni destinasyon fikri/projesi bulunmaktadır. Ulusal kış turizmi literatürü ise 1990’larda gelişmeye başlamış, bir süre bölgesel değerlendirmelerle sınırlı kalmış, 2011 itibariyle sayıca ve içerik olarak zenginleşmeye başlamıştır.
The study was carried out to evaluate the process of transforming ski, which was developed for transportation purposes thousands of years ago, into one of the biggest tourism movements in the world and in Türkiye today. Examinations have shown that the period after the 1850s is very significant for winter tourism. In this process, skiing, which is a phenomenon of at least 8000 years, has been modernized in Norway, Alpine Discipline, which is the forerunner of today’s recreational skiing, has developed, ski lifts and mountain hotels have been established, and winter tourism movement has spread in the Alpine region, especially in Switzerland. From the perspective of the Turkish world, it is seen that the Turkish tribes living in the Altai Mountains are among the ancestors of skiing, but skiing in Türkiye began to be learned for military purposes in 1915. The phenomenon of winter tourism, on the other hand, started to develop in Uludağ as one of the modernization efforts of the newly established Republic in the 1930s. Today, there are 51 active ski areas and 53 new destination ideas/projects in Türkiye. The national winter tourism literature, on the other hand, started to develop in the 1990s, was limited to regional evaluations for a while, and started to enrich in number and content as of 2010.
