Is the high prevalence of the body adiposity index associated with sociodemographic factors, behavioral habits and anthropometric profile?

Introduction: The unhealthy lifestyle adhered to by a considerable portion of the population promotes the accumulation of body mass that can be evidenced by the acquisition of overweight and obesity in addition to other comorbidities. A body composition anthropometric estimates can expand not only the reliable capacity of epidemiological studies, but also the direction of effective public policies that can positively interfere in the quality of life of these people. The body adiposity index (BAI), originated in 2011, emerges as a promising method in order to enable more precision in these anthropometric analyzes compared to other methods. Objective: Estimating the prevalence of the body adiposity index (BAI) and associated factors in technical collaborators of a University Center in Montes Claros-MG. Materials and Methods: Epidemiological study, cross-sectional and analytical, held at the Centro Universitário FIPMoc (UNIFIPMoc) in Montes Claros-MG from January to December 2019. Results: The prevalence of body adiposity was 45.3%. Considering the socio-demographic aspects, behavioral habits and anthropometric profile investigated the conditions that demonstrated a significant relationship with the BAI were sex (p=0.000), the use of cigarettes (0.562) and IMC (p=0.013). Discussion: A high prevalence of body adiposity was found in technical collaborators, which remained associated with sociodemographic factors, behavioral habits and anthropometric profile. Conclusion: The significant prevalence of body adiposity evidenced in technical collaborators can enable the implementation of interventionist measures, in order to promote health and, in a comprehensive way, enhance the quality of life of the participants involved.
