Abstract:

Bayramzâde (Bülbülzâde) Abdullah Edib Ayntâbî is one of the important muderris who grew up in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. He completed his education from famous teachers in Ayntab, Marash, Kilis and Istanbul. Afterwards, he worked as a muderris in madrasas in Istanbul and Ayntab. He not only worked as a mudarris, but also fought seriously in the War of Independence and made important socio-cultural contributions. During the days of the War of Independence, he traveled around Ayntab and its surroundings step by step, giving sermons, reciting poems and inviting the people to resistance. In the first years of the Republic, madrasas were closed down with the Law on Tevhid-i Tedrisat. Imam Hatip Schools were opened for a short time in place of the closed madrasas. Bayramzâde Abdullah Edib Efendi also taught in those schools. Later, he published his lecture notes from the hadith lessons he taught in those schools as a book with the encouragement of his friends and for the benefit of the students. This work can be called a source that can be referred to as the first work in the field of hadith methodology in the Republican period. In this article, Abdullah Edib's life, education, works and his book Usûl-i Hadith Dersleri will be analyzed and transcribed. In particular, whether the book is original or not and the works he benefited from will be identified and evaluated. Abdullah Edib Efendi's life and works will also be discussed. The confusion of information in the biographical publications written about him before will also be identified and evaluated.
