Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine the extent to which diversities are included in Life Studies textbooks. The research is carried out using the document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research designs. In the research carried out in the 2020-2021 academic year, Life Studies textbooks of the first, second, and third grades constitute the material of the study. The data which is obtained from Life Studies textbooks are analyzed by using the descriptive analysis method. Throughout the research process, the a form was used as the data collection tool which is developed by the researchers. According to the results of the research, "individuals with special needs" were mostly included in Life Studies textbooks. Moreover, it is emphasized to be sensitive and respectful towards individuals with special needs. The second most frequently mentioned group is “individuals who migrate”. On the other hand, according to the results of the research, "individuals with different religions", "individuals with different social status" and "individuals with different economic levels" were not included. And ultimately, according to the results of the research, it was found that the second-grade textbooks are the books that include the most diversities in life studies textbooks. Depending on the results of the research, it is suggested that the textbooks should be organised to include everyone in the society.
