Osmanlı Devleti’nin son dönemlerinde şehirlerin kimliklerini, geleneklerini ve kültürlerini kaybetmeye başlaması, Batılılaşma/modernleşme teşebbüsleriyle neredeyse eş zamanlıdır. Hem Osmanlı hem de Cumhuriyet modernleşmesi, özellikle İstanbul’daki sosyal hayata doğrudan etki eder. Modernleşme teşebbüslerinin İstanbul’daki hayata etkisi, Tanzimat’tan itibaren yazılan pek çok edebî metnin de konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Batılılaşma eğilimlerinin işlendiği erken dönem Cumhuriyet romanlarında İstanbul’un kimlik yitimine uğramaya başlaması özellikle sosyolojik ve iktisadî boyutuyla birlikte ele alınmaktadır. II. Meşrutiyet’ten itibaren yazın hayatında aktif bir yer edinen Halide Edib de romanlarında İstanbul’un dokusunun bozulmasını ve kimliğinin dönüşüme uğramasını Batılılaşma olgusuyla birlikte ele aldığı gibi şehrin kılcal damarlarına kadar sinen yozlaşmayı aidiyet bilinci, kök değerlerin sahiplenilmesi ve bilinçsiz bir Batılılaşma çerçevesinde işleyerek çoğulcu bir kompozisyon oluşturur. Adıvar’ın romanlarında İstanbul, dekoratif bir unsur olarak değil mimarisiyle, kültürüyle, kimliğiyle eski ve yeni hayatın bir arada aktığı canlı bir kültür şehri olarak yer edinir. Medeniyet karşılaşmalarını bütüncül bir perspektiften değerlendiren Halide Edib, gelenek ve modernlik arasında mutedil ve senteze dayanan bir uzlaşmadan yanadır. Bu makalede Halide Edib’in romanlarında şehir ve kimlik ilişkisi, kültür, medeniyet, aidiyet ve Batılılaşma çerçevesinde ele alınarak sosyolojik bir perspektifle irdelenecektir.
The beginning of the Ottoman State to lose its identities, traditions and cultures in the last period is almost simultaneous with the Westernization/modernization efforts. The modernization of both the Ottoman and the Republic directly affects the social life, especially in Istanbul. The impact of modernization efforts on life in Istanbul is also the subject of many literary texts written from Tanzimat. The early period in which the tendencies of westernization were processed in the Republic romanes; the beginning of Istanbul’s identity loss is addressed especially with its socio-economic dimension. and II. Halide Edib, who has taken an active place in the summer life from the lawfulness, also in his novels addresses the deformation of the tissue of Istanbul and the conversion of its identity with the Westernization phenomenon, as he deals with the city's core vessels; the awareness of affiliation, the possession of root values and the unconscious Westernization framework, creates a multiplicated composition. In Adıvar’s novels, Istanbul is not a decorative element, but a vibrant cultural city with its architecture, culture, identity and ancient and new life. Halide Edib, who evaluates the encounters of civilization from a comprehensive perspective, is on the side of a muted and synthesis-based agreement between tradition and modernity. In this article, Halide Edib's novels will discuss the city and identity relationship, culture, civilization, affiliation and Westernization in a sociological perspective.
