Eğitim ve Yoksullukla Mücadele: Türkiye’den Bölgesel Bir Kanıt

Abstract:

Çalışmada, Türkiye’de eğitimin yoksullukla mücadeledeki uzun dönemli rolü 2008-2018 yılları arasındaki bölgesel düzeydeki veriler kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada, öncelikle verilerin eş bütünleşme özellikleri incelenmiştir. İkinci olarak, eğitim ile yoksulluk arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki Tam Değiştirilmiş En Küçük Kareler ve Dinamik En Küçük Kareler Yöntemleri kullanılarak tahmin edilmiştir. Üçüncü olarak nedenselliğin yönü ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada, ortaöğretim ve yükseköğretimin Türkiye’de bölgesel yoksulluğu azaltmaya katkı sağladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, yükseköğretimin yoksulluğu azaltma üzerindeki etkisi ortaöğretimden daha fazladır.

Education and poverty fighting: a regional proof from Turkey

Abstract:

In the study, the long-term role of education in the fight against poverty in Turkey was studied using data on the regional level between 2008-2018 years. In the study, first and foremost, the integration characteristics of the data were studied. Secondly, the long-term relationship between education and poverty has been predicted using the fully modified Smallest Quarters and Dynamic Smallest Quarters Methods. Thirdly, the reasoning direction is discussed. The study found that secondary education and higher education contributed to the reduction of regional poverty in Turkey. Also, according to the results from the study, the impact of higher education on poverty reduction is greater than high school.

In this study, we investigated the long-run role of education on poverty alleviation using the sub-national data of Turkey from 2008 to 2018. Firstly, we explore the cointegration properties of the data. Secondly, we estimate the long-run relationship between education and poverty by employing the Fully Modified OLS (FMOLS) and Dynamic OLS (DOLS) estimators. Thirdly, we reveal the direction of causality. We find that secondary and tertiary education help to eliminate sub-national poverty in Turkey. Moreover, the empirical results demonstrate that tertiary education has a higher effect in comparison with secondary education in reducing poverty.
