Urban transformation projects are needed to ensure that the city grows healthy and fit the conditions of time. If these transformation projects are carried out in the historic areas of the city, which have an extremely important place for the city’s identity, it requires very rigorous work. Changes in these areas will directly affect the city’s texture, culture and visual identity. The realization of transformations in historic areas with the method of "renovation" is an important requirement to avoid surgical interventions such as alansal cleaning (destruction). The people living in these areas should be actively involved as long as they have a serious contribution to the creation of the city identity. In this article, the negative effects of urban transformation practices on the visual identity of the city of Istanbul will be studied through the "touch" element that has an important place for the city's composition. In addition to the scan of literature, the research also contains current photos of the historic areas concerned.
