Abstract:

The industrialization movements in the second half of the 20th century directly affected Isparta province with Yalvaç district and that accelerated the production and commercial activities in the region with the construction of more than one factory structure between 1960 and 70s. Among these built factories; brick/roof tile and leather factories. Because the good soil quality of the region, 5 brick/roof tile factories were established in the district and these factories were closed down due to economic, raw material and transportation problems. Fil and Birlik brick/roof tile factories, which are the subject of the study, were built in the district of Kaşaşağı neighbourhood in 1966-1967 and acted the act for 17 years. As the factories became idle, the main spaces of the factory were demolished, and today, the chimney structures constructed with masonry system using brick material remained from the factory buildings. During the process, the chimney structures were worn off due to natural causes and the effects of public works and they needed repair. Within the scope of the work carried out by the request of Yalvaç Municipality, the survey, restitution and restoration works and projects reports of the chimney structures were submitted to the Regional Board of Antalya Conservation of Cultural Heritage and the studies evaluated were approved by the board on 22.08.2018. Fil and Birlik factory buildings are important factors determining the economic structure of the period for the district and the protection of the surviving chimney structures is important for the preservation of urban memory. In this study, parts of physical protection, which is the first step needed for these structures to ensure the continuity of the historical process, are explained. Disturbances detected in chimney structures, causes of deterioration, necessary analyses and solution suggestions for current problems are presented.
