The concept of populism has become one of the dominant concepts of today’s political analyses and discussions. Geographically, many political movements and actors in different political and ideological lines in different parts of the world are identified and characterized, with the aim of referring to the concept of populism, which is a fundamental concept of contemporary political science. But the populism itself is a mythical and sublime concept and does not yet have a clear and universal recognition. Because it is an uncertain concept, populism, on the one hand, has an extensive use enough to be defined in the form of real democracy, on the other hand, in the form of fascist dictatorship, on the other hand, in the form of political positions that are completely opposed to each other. This study aims to study the concept of populism and to identify the relationship of this concept with liberal democracy and fascism (fascist dictatorship) as two opposite political concepts and positions.
The term of populism has become one of the main concepts of the current political analyses and debates. The term of populism, a main concept of contemporary political science, is referred to with the aim of identifying and characterizing many political movements and actors that are quite different -even opposite- politically and ideologically in various parts of the world. However, since populism itself is a vague and complex concept, it does not yet have a clear and universal definition. As it is a vague term, populism has such a wide range of usage that it can be defined by thoroughly opposing political positions, in the form of true democracy on the one hand, and fascist dictatorship on the other hand. This study aims to analyse the concept of populism and to determine its relation to liberal democracy and fascism (fascist dictatorship) as two opposing political understanding and stance.
