Özet:

Since cities are living organisms, every limb must be kept alive and protected by healthy and reasonable organizations. Traditional and historical settlements, which serve as the memory and cultural memory of the city, are the spatial planes that record and sustain all the social, cultural and spatial accumulations of the city and city dwellers. Since these settlements are the oldest residential areas of the city, they also include intangible cultural heritage values (local language, tradition / tradition, folk dances, music, traditional rituals) and concrete cultural heritage (architectural elements, art objects, landscape) accommodates as a whole. For this reason, the historical and traditional settlement areas of the cities are important values in terms of urban identity and cultural heritage. It is seen that the settlement areas with the value of urban heritage have been brought to the city with some conservation and restoration projects and have benefited the people of the region in some places where they are left idle by being used in some places. Sustainable traditional and historical settlements, areas that have been brought to tourism by protecting structures and streets are symbol values of the city and contribute to socio-economic sustainability. These residential areas, which have the power to add brand value to the city, also provide great support to urban aesthetics and silhouette. Protecting these settlements together with their environmental and architectural values and bringing them to the fore with their tourism potential; it will provide optimal benefits in economic, cultural and social terms and will be a driving force for regional development. The study aims to analyze the contribution of traditional and historical settlements to tourism and their contribution to sustainability and development with the urban identity and concrete cultural heritage value. Within the scope of the study, the literature on sustainable traditional residential areas brought into tourism has been examined; in the light of the data obtained, different traditional and historical settlements of Anatolia were examined. As a result of the study, it is aimed to bring the sustainable traditional settlements, which should be preserved with concrete cultural heritage values and transferred to future generations, to the city and the local people as cultural and tourism centers.
