Abstract:

This study aims to study the levels of uncertainty and cognitive flexibility of university candidates in the preference process in terms of demographic variables. The data was collected from 1377 people, including 963 women and 414 men. The data was collected through the personal information form prepared by the researchers, the Uncertainty Measure and the Intellectual Flexibility Measure prepared by Smile and Mountains (2009) adapted to the culture of Turkey. In data analysis, using the SPSS 25.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program, T-Test, one-way variance analysis (One Way ANOVA) and correlation analysis were used for non-related samples. The study found that the girls’ uncertainty scores were higher than men, and the cognitive flexibility scores were not different according to gender. Three or more candidates who entered the exam were found to have higher uncertainty levels than less than three candidates who entered the exam, and no significant differences were found in terms of levels of cognitive flexibility. The negative relationship between uncertainty and cognitive flexibility score average has been statistically significantly identified. The findings of the research were discussed in the summer framework.
