Abstract:

This research was carried out in order to develop the "Psychological Performance Evaluation Scale in Sports (PPESiS)" and to determine its psychometric properties. The universe of this research consists of athletes competing on a team or individual basis from 35 sports branches that represent the theoretical framework. The sample consists of 840 active elite athletes who compete in individual and team sports determined by random sampling method from the universe and agree to participate voluntarily in our study. The development of the “Psychological Performance Assessment Scale in Sports (PPESiS)” consists of certain stages. In order to determine the scale items, a pool of items was first created. Then, expert opinions were obtained, pilot trials were conducted and the reliability and validity of the scale were tested, respectively. In order to examining the structural validity of the scale, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used, and convergent validity and divergence validity were also subjected to analyses. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient was calculated for the reliability test of the scale. As a result of the analyzes conducted, the scores obtained from the validity and reliability tests support the 3-factor structure of the 32-item PPESiS. As a result, it was concluded that the Psychological Performance Evaluation Scale in Sports is a measurement tool that provides psychometric qualities for assessing the psychological performance of the Turkish population in a sports environment.
