Abstract:

In recent years, cutting flowers production and export has played a major role in the economy of many countries. Cutting flower industry continues to advance as an important economic activity with the volume of production and trade in both the world and in Turkey. The increase in cutting flower demand and the development in transportation services has accelerated the progress of this sector. This research covers the selected producers of roses, gerbera, karanfil, krizantem, lisiantus in the district of Izmir or Menderes. The socio-economic structure of cutting flower producers, the production economy and the annual activities of enterprises have been studied and the results have been presented. The total gross production values, variable costs, gross profits and unit costs are calculated for each cutting flower. According to the findings; cranberry production has been identified as the most profitable among other cutting flowers. Furthermore, the most important factors affecting the production decision of cranberries have been identified as 'the low cost of production and habits'.
