Abstract:

Considering the ceramic art in terms of a historical process, whereas in the beginning, the ceramic forms were produced for functional use, in the post-Industrial Revolution period, it was influenced by the new formations in plastic arts towards the end of the 19th century and transformed into a unique expression style adopting a different interpretation by plucking away from the functional form cognizance towards practicability. Today, it secures its position as the concept of "contemporary ceramic art" within the field of plastic arts. It is revealed that the permeability concept emerges in various disciplines of art in the 19th century through the methods of acquisition or capturing image. However, the term permeability has not been commonly used in Turkish in ceramic art, instead, terms of foreign origin such as transparent or translucent have been used. The lexical meaning of the word permeability is simply show-through or see-through the rear side, but in this study, permeability, beyond its lexical meaning, refers to the forms establishing trapped gaps within the form by creating depth with each plan which is intertwining or overlapping. In this study, the reflection of the permeability concept on the ceramic art forms is evaluated through the works of art of the artists in the plastic arts.
