Bu çalışma hemşirelik bölümü öğrencilerinin ölmekte olan bireyin bakımına ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek amacıyla kesitsel olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırma örneklemi, bir üniversitenin sağlık bilimleri fakültesi hemşirelik bölümü ikinci, üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf düzeyindeki 161 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Veriler tanıtıcı özelikler bilgi formu ve Frommelt Ölmekte Olan Bireyin Bakımına İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin %59,6’sı yaşam sonu bakıma ilişkin eğitim aldığını belirtmiştir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin %45,9’ u ölüme karşı tutumun evrensel olduğunu ve ölümün doğal karşılanması gerektiğini düşündüklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin yaşları ile ölümden kaçma davranışları arasında negatif yönde anlamlı ilişki olduğu, 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin kabul edici yaklaşım ve ölümü kabullenme alt boyutlarının diğer sınıflara göre daha düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca yaşam sonu bakıma ilişki bilgi alanların, Ölüm Korkusu puan ortalamaları ve daha önce ölmekte olan hastaya bakım verme deneyimi olmayanların, Tarafsız Kabullenme puan ortalamaları diğer gruplara göre yüksek bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin ölmekte olan kişinin bakımına yönelik tutumları orta düzeyde bulunmuştur. Hemşirelik öğrencilerine, ölmekte olan hastalara ve ailelerine yönelik bakım becerilerini geliştirmeleri için daha fazla eğitim fırsatı sunulması önemlidir
This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine nursing students’ attitudes towards care of dying individuals. Research sample consisted of 161 students at 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade level among the nursing department students of a university. Data were collected using the descriptive information form and "Frommelt Attitudes Toward Care of the Dying" Scale. Sexty percent of the nursing students stated that they are trained in end-of-life care. Forty six percent of nursing students stated that the attitude towards death is universal and that death should be regarded as a natural phenomenon. There was a significant negative correlation between students' age and their death-evidance behavior. It has been determined that acceptance approach and death acceptance sub-dimensions of third grade students were lower than the other classes. In addition, the scores of fear of death subscale were found higher than the other groups. Furthermore, those who didn’t have previous care experience in dying patients were found to have higher levels of impartial acceptance subscale scores than the other groups. The attitudes of the students towards the care of the dying individual were found to be moderate. It is important for nursing students more education opportunities to learn more about end-of-life care and to develop skills in looking after dying patients and their families.
