Somatoform Bozukluk ve Fibromyalji Hastalarında Kişilik Özelliklerinin Karşılaştırılması

Aim: Somatoform disorders and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) are among the illnesses progressing through signs of pain. The aim of this study is to compare personality characteristics in patients with FMS and Somatoform Disorder with each other’s and healthy controls. Material and Methods: The patients who applied to Duzce University Psychiatry Policlinic between 2010-2011 and diagnosed with one of the subgroups of somatoform disorders according to the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV-TR), and who applied to the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation policlinic and followed up with FMS diagnosis, were included in this study as study group. Healthy individuals who have no psychiatric disorders according to DSM IV-TR, and also have no FMS diagnosis were constituted the control group. Personality characteristics of the participants were evaluated by Hacettepe Personality Inventory (HKE). Results: As a result of the study, personal compliance (PC) scores which is subscale of HKE scores of somatoform disorder subgroups and FMS patients, were found significantly lower than the healthy control group (p<0.05). When the study groups were examined according to the social compliance (SC) subscale, there was no significant difference between all groups (p>0.05). According to the general adaptation (GA) score obtained by the sum of the PC and SC scale scores; general adaptation of the somatoform disorder subgroups and the patients in the FMS group; statistically significantly lower than control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that there were similar personality characteristics including low personal harmony, good social harmony and low general harmony in both the somatoform disorder subgroups and the FMS group, different from the control group.
