Abstract:

Retirement means the period of transition in which persons move from the end of the middle age to age. This transition represents the exit from active labour to work life and varies depending on financial and socio-demographic factors. The aim of this study is to examine the decisions of elderly in the existing pension system in Turkey and to identify the factors affecting this process (age, gender, civil status, educational status, the person responsible for care, work status, the number of children possessed, housing property, general health status, income status and current financial status). In this framework, the 2013-2016 Income and Life Conditions Research Panel Data Set is used provided by the Turkish Statistical Authority (TUIK). Demographic and socio-economic factors have a significant impact on the retirement decisions of older workers, health, education, dependent childhood, civic status and income levels have no significant impact on the retirement decisions of the same age group and women working.
