Abstract:

This research aims to determine the perceptions towards the developing sport of korfball in Turkey. The convenience sample approach was used to choose the research group for the study, in which the phenomenology design was preferred among the qualitative research methodologies. The research group for this study consisted of 93 individuals who play korfball licenses. Nevertheless, 89 metaphors were deemed appropriate for the study and included in the evaluation because the forms of 4 participants were missing. As a technique for gathering data, the researchers created a semi-structured metaphor form. The participants were instructed to finish the line "Korfball is like......; Because....." metaphorically. In the study, the data were analyzed by content analysis method. It was determined that the metaphors produced for korfball were divided into two general categories: "technical features" and "benefits." In the general category of technical features, the categories of process representing that korfball learning covers a certain period, gender equality expressing that female and male athletes have equal rights, and similarity to other sports branches emphasizing its similarity to branches such as basketball and handball came to the fore, while in the general category of benefit, the categories of entertainment, lifestyle, and socialization came to the fore. It was determined that the most frequently expressed metaphors for korfball were "Basketball," "Life," and "Scales."
