INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to determine the views of nursing students about family/parent presence during painful procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in adult/child patients. METHODS: This descriptive study consisted of 337 nursing students in two universities in Ankara during 2014-2015 academic year. The data were collected by a questionnaire which developed by authors. The questionnaire included demographic characteristics of participants and open and closed-ended questions about family/parent presence during painful procedures and CPR. The data were evaluated by frequencies, percentages and chi-square test. RESULTS: Most of the participants had positive statements about family presence (70.3%) and parent presence (87.8%) during painful procedures. Moreover, two-fifth of participants stated that family/parent should accompany with their adult/child patients during CPR. It was determined that students who have higher academic year supported family/parent presence during painful procedures and CPR. CONCLUSION: It was determined that students who participated in the study were satisfied with the presence of patient relatives/parents during painful procedures and CPR. In our study, it was found that students did not prefer to have their patients and family members as near when the complexity of the procedure increased.
