Abstract:

Objective: The study was conducted to determine nursing students' views on violence against healthcare workers. Material and Method: The research was conducted with 295 nursing students who attended a health school and agreed to participate in the study between January 25 and February 26, 2020. A data collection form containing personal information and opinions regarding violence, created by the researchers by scanning the literature, was used. The evaluation of the data was made by number-percentage distribution and Chisquare analysis. Results: The mean age of the participants in the study is 20.40 ± 1.52, 63.1% of them are women, 38% of them are second class, and 85.4% of the healthcare workers did not receive training on violence. According to the results of the study, the cause of violenceto healthcare workers was stated as impatience of patients/relatives and crowded hospitals. It was found that 18.3% of the students were informed about the criminal proceedings related to the violence against the health workers, and 77.8% of them thought that these punishments were not deterrent. In addition, 52.5% of the students think that the news and serials in the media increase the tendency to violence against healthcare workers. Conclusion: Approximately a quarter of nursing students has witnessed violence against healthcare workers and thinks that the violence has many causes. It is thought that it is important for nursing students, who are the future nurses, to be aware of these reasons and raise awareness about violence.
