Abstract:

To work as a permanent music teacher in state schools affiliated to the National Education Ministry in our country, being a graduate of the Faculty of Education, Department of Music Education, or taking the necessary pedagogical formation related to this field, and then obtaining a sufficient score by entering the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) is necessary. One of the most significant dimensions of the KPSS anxiety is the reality of unemployment that will be faced in case of failure. There are many studies in the literature that reveal the pressure of unemployment anxiety on university students. In this study, it was felt necessary to make a comparative analysis between these two anxiety types, which are thought to be related to each other.  Although there are studies examining the KPSS anxiety of teacher candidates in various branches in the literature, there are not many studies examining the KPSS and unemployment concerns of music teacher candidates’. The aim of this study is to examine the KPSS and unemployment concerns of music teacher candidates through various variables and to propose solutions for these concerns. The universe of the research consists of senior (4th grade) students continuing their education in Music Education Departments, and the sample is senior (4th grade) students (N=92) from nine universities selected from different geographical regions. “KPSS Anxiety Scale” and “Unemployment Anxiety Scale” were used as data collection tools. As a result of the research, it was determined that the music teacher candidates' KPSS and unemployment anxiety levels were above the average and there was a significant relationship between both anxiety. While there was no significant difference between KPSS and unemployment anxiety and age, gender, type of high school graduated, there was a remarkable difference between the general academic grade point average variable. As the general academic grade point average increases, KPSS and unemployment anxiety decrease. While there was a significant relationship between KPSS anxiety and income level, no significant difference was found between unemployment anxiety and income level variable. As the income level increases, KPSS anxiety decreases, while unemployment anxiety does not change. At the end of the study, various solution proposals for KPSS and unemployment anxiety are included.
