Abstract:

From past to present, one of the most important priorities of societies has been the education of the next generation. Starting from the years of the National War, important studies have been carried out on how the education system should be in the Republic of Turkey. These studies continued with the university reform in higher education (Darülfünun). As a result of the University Reform (Malche Raporu) Darülfünun was closed and, instead of it, Istanbul University was established. In this study, the news about "Darülfünun" in the newspapers such as; Hâkimiyeti Milliye, Vakit, Cumhuriyet and Milliyet, were examined which have an important place in the Turkish National Press. The articles of influential writers of the period such as Ahmet Şükrü, Falih Rıfkı, Yunus Nadi and Mahmut Bey, who had columns in these newspapers, were also identified. In addition, the views of Reşit Galip, the Minister of Education of this period are also included. The related news in these newspapers are grouped under two sections. The subject of the first, is the news and thoughts of the newspapers about "Darülfünun". The second section is about the processing of the opinions of the writers about "Darülfünun". In this study, document analysis technique was used as a qualitative research method. In addition, the relevant literature, archive documents, parliament reports, memoirs and periodicals were analyzed. As a result, the closure stages of Darülfünun were evaluated in the aspects of the thoughts of the bureaucracy and the authors in Turkish press.
