Nutritional status and food adequacy of children in a school in the municipality of São Jorge D'oeste-PR

Food is the basic principle of health, so it is important that from childhood be emphasized the consumption of a balanced diet, so that the child has a correct growth and development. It is considered important to analyze the snacks of the school lunch, to evaluate the quantity and quality of the food offered, in order to prevent nutritional deviations. Therefore, this research had the objective of tracing the nutritional profile of schoolchildren and checking the adequacy of energy, protein, calcium and iron of school lunch in the morning and afternoon, ascertaining if they reach the recommendations of the FNDE. It was a cross-sectional study with children from 5 to 10 years of age, of which 36 were female and 41 were male. To determine the nutritional profile, anthropometry was used by means of weight and height evaluation. The Stature / Age and BMI / Age indicators were calculated using the Z score. Subsequently, the calculation of one week of the preparations served in the school snack was carried out, to verify the nutrient adequacy, the values obtained were compared to the daily nutritional needs of children, who remain part of the school (20%). However, the results evidenced a majority of schoolchildren in adequate nutritional status, however the foods offered did not reach nutrient recommendations.
