Abstract:

Schwannomas are described as neurogenic tumors arising from Schwann cells surrounding peripheral nerves. 25-45% of extracranial schwannomas occur in the head and neck. A 27-year-old female patient with a painless swelling on the right side of the neck, which she noticed for two years, presented to our clinic. On examination, a solid tumoral lesion of 33x32 mm in size was detected in the right supraclavicular region. It was closely adjacent to the subclavian vein. The tumor, located in the region where the brachial plexus upper trunk divides into anterior and posterior divisions, was completely removed without damaging the nerve. Pathology result was reported as schwannoma. Schwannomas originating from the brachial plexus are rare head and neck tumors. Their close anatomical neighborhood with the main neurovascular structures in the neck should always be remembered, and care should be taken not to damage these anatomical structures during surgery to prevent potential morbidity.
