Bu çalışmada, okul öncesi öğretmen adaylarının bilimsel düşünme becerilerine ilişkin görüşleri ve bu becerilerin öğretiminde yaşayabileceği muhtemel problemler ve çözüm önerileri ortaya konmuştur. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden bütüncül çoklu durum deseni kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak anket ve görüşme teknikleri birlikte kullanılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarına anket olarak Fen Dersine Yönelik Farkındalık Ölçeği (Görüşme Formu-I) uygulanmıştır. Buradan elde edilen veriler çerçevesinde oluşturulan çalışma grubu ile Bilimsel Düşünme Becerilerine İlişkin Görüşme Formu (Görüşme Formu-II) kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesi amacıyla 126 öğretmen adayına Görüşme Formu-I rastgele uygulanmıştır. Bu formdan elde edilen puanlara göre (Fen Eğitimi Dersinin Amaçları ve Fen Etkinlikleri) amaçlı örnekleme kapsamında 9 kişi çalışma grubuna (Grup-I: Yüksek-Yüksek [f:3], Grup-II: Orta-Orta [f:3] ve Grup-III: Düşük-Düşük [f:3]) dâhil edilmiştir. Edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel ve içerik analizi birlikte kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonrasında elde edilen bulgulara ilişkin öğretmen adayları ile tekrar görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Böylece, analiz sürecine katılımcılar da dâhil edilerek elde edilen bulguların iç geçerliği arttırılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, öğretmen adaylarının birçoğunun bilimsel düşünme becerilerine yönelik farkındalıkları ve öğretimine yönelik öz-yeterlilikleri düşük seviyededir. Öğretmen adayları bu olumsuz duruma çözüm olarak üniversitede bilimsel düşünme becerilerine yönelik eğitim verilmesi, staj eğitiminde daha sık uygulamalara yer verilmesi, lisans dönemindeki fen eğitimi dersinin uygulamaya yönelik işlenmesi gerektiğini önermişlerdir.
