Abstract:

Objective: Career is defined as lifelong occupational, social or any other occupation. Actions that are objective or subjective involve psychological and behavioral processes. The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes and opinions of university students studying in the field of health regarding their careers. Material and Method: This study was performed by parallel mixed method. In the sample of the study, 282 students studying at a university constitute 282. Individual Information Form and Career Future Scale were used to collect quantitative data, and Semi-Structured Interview Form was used to collect qualitative data. Quantitative data were evaluated by SPSS 20.0 program using number and percentage distribution, Students t-test, one-way Anova test. Inductive content analysis method was used in the analysis of qualitative data. Results: In the study, it was determined that the average scores of the students, which is the lower dimension of the career future scale, were generally high and the average scores of perceived knowledge about the job market were at a medium level. In the study, it was determined that the gender factor, choosing the department they studied voluntarily and making a career plan affected the career attitude. As a result of the analysis of the interviews, career planning consisting of 15 categories, discovery, confidence in coping with difficulties, positive outlook for the future, expectations and emotions were determined. Conclusion: It was determined that students were aware of their career options, searched for information and explored different career options. In the study, it is thought that the awareness of the careers of university students studying in the field of health has increased. In this context, it is recommended to add courses for career planning to the course programs that will increase the attitudes and awareness of university students about their careers and to program the trainings.
