Abstract:

With the 1961 Constitution, a bicameral system consisting of the National Assembly and the Senate of the Republic was put into practice, the power to make laws was shared between these two chambers, although their powers were different from each other. 10 female senator members, 6 of whom were appointed by election and 4 of them by the president, served. Two of the six elected members are Nazire Özel Şahingiray and Hatice Mualla Akarca, who were elected to the Senate from the Justice Party (AP) in 1961. The study, which aims to contribute to the understanding of Turkish political life by presenting the activities of Şahingiray and Akarca, who were elected to the Senate of the Republic, in a clear and objective situation, as a result of the political and social conditions caused by the coup d'état of 27 May 1960, includes the legislative proposals submitted by the two female senators during their term of office. limited to his proposals and speeches.
