Abstract:

Purpose: This study was aimed at determining the effects of denosumab treatment in postmenopausal osteoporosis patients on bone mineral dancitometry (KMD) T-scores, back pain and patient satisfaction. The study included 134 patients who received regular denosumab treatment for 2 years with postmenopausal osteoporosis diagnosis. Following the collection of socio-demographic data, the healing of patients in the KMD T scales and visual analog scale (VAS) with denosumab treatment was evaluated. The likert scale analyzed the patient’s satisfaction, the improvement in physical functions and the quality of life. Results: According to pre-treatment values, statistically significant improvements in the vertebra and femur T scores with back pain were observed at the end of the treatment (p<0,001). The average back pain VAS score dropped from 6.66±1.23 to 3.16±1.70. The average vertebra L1-L4 T score rose from -3,32±0,45 to -2,98±0,49 (p<0,001), while the femur neck T score rose from -1,98±1,26 to -1,86±1,25 (p<0,001). 26.87 percent of patients that denosumab was very effective, while 47.76 percent that it was effective. In terms of healing in physical functions, 36,57 percent of patients considered denosumab treatment very effective, with 32,09 percent considered it effective. 28.36% of patients assessed denosumab as very effective in terms of quality of life, while 43.28% assessed it as effective. Results: The results of this study show that denosumab injection is an effective and practical treatment option that increases the T scores in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis, reduces back pain and satisfies patients.
