Evlilik, iki karşı cinsin yani erkek ve kadının birlikteliği yani cinsel doyumun sağlanması, dayanışması ve daha da önemlisi neslin sürekliliğini sağlayan sözleşmeye dayalı ilişki biçimidir. Bütün kültürlerde evliliğin taşıdığı önem ve kutsallık aşağı yukarı eşit düzeydedir. Toplumun temel taşını oluşturan aile her toplum için vazgeçilmez bir olgudur. Aile de kadın ve erkeğin resmi bir akitle bir araya gelmesiyle oluşan toplumun temel kurumudur. Aile bu birliktelikten doğan çocuklarla daha da sağlamlaşır ve gürleşir. Diğer bir deyişle aile, evlilik ve kan bağına dayanan anne, baba ve çocuklardan oluşan en küçük sosyal gruptur. Toplum ailelerden oluşur. Sevgi, saygı, gelenek ve görenek gibi değerler öncelikle aile ortamında kazanılır. Aile kurumunun en önemli niteliği, sevgi odaklı bir ilişkiler dünyası olmasıdır. Bu yönüyle aile, bireyleri sevgi ve şefkatle toplumsal hayata hazırlayan bir okuldur. Aile kurumunun sağlıklı olabilmesi için erkek ve kadının ruhsal ve bedensel yönden gelişmesini tamamlamış ve olgunluk çağına ulaşmış olması gerekir. Bunun yanında evlilik yaşı hususunda farklı uygulamalar bulunmaktadır. Evlilik yaşı yalnızca ülkeler arasında değil, aynı ülkenin farklı bölgelerinde de farklılıklar gösterebilmektedir. Genelde Türk toplumunda evlilik yaşı gelenek, görenek ve inançlarına göre şekillenmiştir. Türk Toplumunda bundan çok değil, 30-40 yıl öncesine kadar kız çocukları 15 ila 18 yaş arasında, erkek çocukları da 15- ila 20 yaş arasında evlendirilirken bugün evlilik yaşı 30’un üzerine çıkmış bulunmaktadır. Bu yaşı en geç yirmili yaşların başlarına çekmek birey ve toplum sağlığı açısından gereklidir. Tabii ki erken ya da ileri yaşlarda evliliğin kültürel, sosyal, ekonomik açılardan birçok sebebi bulunmaktadır.

The most important feature of the family institution is that it is a world of love-focused relationships. In this regard, the family is a school that prepares individuals for social life with love and compassion. In order for the family body to be healthy, it is necessary that the man and woman have completed their mental and physical development and have reached the maturity age. There are different practices on the age of marriage. The age of marriage can differ not only between countries, but also in different regions of the same country. Usually in the Turkish society, marriage age is shaped according to traditions, habits and beliefs. In the Turkish society, not much of this, until 30-40 years ago the girls were between the ages of 15 and 18 and the boys were married between the ages of 15 and 20 and today the age of marriage has risen above the age of 30. At this age at the beginning of the age of twenty, it is necessary for the individual and community health. Of course, in the early or older ages, there are many reasons for marriage from cultural, social, and economic aspects.

In general, the age of marriage in Turkish society has been shaped according to traditions, customs and beliefs. In Turkish society, not only 30-40 years ago, girls were married between 15 and 18 years of age, and boys between 15 and 20 years of age. Today the age of marriage is over 30. It is necessary to bring this age to the beginning of the twenties at the latest in terms of individual and public health. Of course, early marriages have many reasons for cultural, social and economic reasons.
