Abstract:

Aim: To reveal the general profile of the academic structure and educational status of the nursing department. Methods: In 2020, undergraduate-level nursing departments that accept students with the exam of higher education institutions are included. Excel and SPSS 25 package programs were used in the analysis of the data. Evaluation was made using descriptive statistics. While percentage and frequency values were used to show categorical variables, tables were created by using mean, minimum and maximum values for continuous variables. Data were obtained from the atlas database of the Higher Education Institution, the official websites of universities and higher education institutions. Results: In the current situation, it has been seen that there are nursing departments in 102 public universities, 13.005 students registered in 2020, and the current number of students is 54.397. It has been observed that 2.226 faculty members are employed as an academic structure, and almost all of them have undergraduate degrees from nursing. Conclusion: Nursing department is a department that is gradually increasing in terms of academic and student structure. It would be beneficial to determine more comprehensive and detailed targets such as the 2023 vision of the Ministry of Health and to open departments accordingly.
