Öz: Bu araştırmada Ankara, Adana ve Mersin illerinde yaşayan, erken yaşta evlenen kadınların ve erkeklerin erken evliliği gerçekleştirmelerinin sosyo-demografik ve sosyo-kültürel nedenleri ile evlilik süreçlerini kendi anlatımlarından yola çıkarak nasıl anlamlandırdıklarının tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Evlilik nedenleri bireylerin evlenme yaşları, şimdiki yaşları, eğitim düzeyleri, aylık ortalama gelirleri, doğum yerleri gibi demografik özellikler ile erken yaşta evlenmelerine neden olan kültürel özellikleri kapsamaktadır. Türkiye’de erken evliliklerle ilgili literatür taraması yapıldığında araştırmaların genellikle çocuk gelinlerle sınırlı kaldığı görülmektedir. Oysa ki evliliğin temelinin karı-koca olmak üzere iki sacayağı üzerine kurulu olması nedeniyle erken evliliğin bütüncül bir anlayışla incelenmesi gerekmekte çocuk gelinlerin yanı sıra çocuk damatların da anlatılarına ihtiyaç duyulmakta ve yaptığımız çalışmanın önemi bu noktada ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra hem anne-babalar hem de çocuklara ilişkin erken evliliklerle ilgili bilgilere ulaşılarak erken evlilik olgusu, nesiller arası bir süreç içerisinde değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırma, yorumlayıcı nitel yöntemle ele alınmıştır. Yorumcu/inşacı nitel yöntem kapsamındaki derinlemesine görüşme tekniğinin yanı sıra katılımlı gözlem tekniğinden de yararlanılan çalışmada on ikisi erkek ve on ikisi kadın olmak üzere toplam yirmi dört kişiyle derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda bireylerin demografik özellikleri ve yaşadıkları toplumsal yapının sosyo-kültürel özellikleri, erken yaşta evlenme nedeni olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Çocuk gelinlerle/damatlarla yapılan görüşmelerde sosyo-demografik nedenlerin yanı sıra erken yaşta evlenme nedenleri olarak huzur, tanıdıklık/akrabalık, aşk, namus ve sorumluluk olmak üzere beş temaya ulaşılmıştır. This study aims to identify how early married women and men living in the provinces of Ankara, Adana and Mersin realize early marriage for socio-demographic and socio-cultural reasons and how they understand marriage processes from their own stories. The reasons for marriage include the cultural characteristics that cause individuals to marry early age, their current age, their educational levels, their average monthly income, their birthplace and demographic characteristics. In Turkey, when the literature on early marriages is scaned, the research is often limited to children's brides. However, because the foundation of marriage is based on two branches, married and married, early marriage must be studied with a comprehensive understanding; children's brides, as well as children's brides, need the stories, and the importance of the work we do is revealed at this point. In addition, the information about early marriages for both parents and children has been obtained and the fact of early marriage has been tried to be assessed within a generational process. The study was conducted by an interpretative method. In addition to the deep-interview technique within the scope of the commenter/inquirer-quality method, as well as the participating observation technique, the study has conducted deep-interviews with a total of twenty-four persons, including twelve men and twelve women. The study found the demographic characteristics of individuals and the socio-cultural characteristics of the social structure in which they live as the cause of early age marriage. In the conversations with the bride/bride, the children have reached five topics, including peace, familiarity/family, love, namus and responsibility, as well as social and demographic reasons for early age marriage. Abstract: This study utilizing the personal narratives of the matrimony of male and female youth living in the provinces of Ankara, Adana and Mersin aims to determine the socio-demographic and socio-cultural reasons behind early marriages and their perception by the underaged brides and grooms. A cursory survey of current literature on early marriages in Turkey points out that research is limited to child brides. However, since marriage is based on two pillars, the husband and the wife, early marriage needs to be examined with a holistic understanding. As narratives of child grooms are as necessary as those of child brides, the importance of such study is evident. Moreover, since the work utilized also information about the parents of the bride and groom, early marriage practices were evaluated as an intergenerational process. The research is conducted based on the interpretive qualitative method. This study utilized the in-depth interview technique of the interpretive/constructive qualitative method as well as the participatory observation technique. In-depth interviews were made with twenty-four people, twelve men and twelve women. The demographic characteristics of individuals and their social-cultural characteristics are some of the reasons of early marriages. In the interviews with child brides/grooms, apart from the socio-demographic reasons, five reasons lie behind early marriages; comfort, familiarity/ kinship, love, honor and responsibility.
