Hüseyin Su, Cumhuriyet dönemi öykücülüğümüzde "Yeni Gelenekçiler" arasında anılmaktadır. Yazarın bugüne kadar yayımlanmış Tüneller, Ana Üşümesi, Gülşefdeli Yemeni ve Aşkın Halleri adlı dört öykü kitabında toplam yirmi yedi öyküsü bulunmaktadır. Bu makalede yazarın öykülerinde yer alan yol, arama, dönüş/yeniden doğuş ve ölüm mitlerini; ritüeller ve anaörgeler/leitmotivleri; hayal, mektup, gül, sandık, kitap, muska ve güvercin gibi sembolik değeri olan unsurları edebiyatta geleneğe bağlılık çerçevesinde nasıl ele alıp işlediğini inceledik.
