Abstract:

Although the legal rights that disabled people have in Turkey are known, work on organizing the built environment in a way that will serve the physical accessibility of disabled people remains insufficient. This study aims to investigate the legal rights that disabled individuals have in the existing system in Turkey, and to reveal the arrangements that allow the accessibility of disabled individuals in the structure. For this purpose, the TS9111 Accessibility Requirements Standards for Disabled and Disabled Persons in Buildings have been examined and the minimum requirements that allow the physical accessibility of disabled persons within the building have been determined and these requirements have been analyzed through the selected sample projects. In this study, the structural availability of disabled individuals who are wheelchair users has been examined and sample project analyses have been carried out through the verification of the needs of the wheelchair users. The assessment of the data obtained by the results of the analyses determined the availability of the sample projects selected and the results were made on how the design should be done taking into account the minimum requirements.
